North Cadbury Court: The perfect Somerset escape

This glorious late Elizabethan house may be familiar to some of you as Kellynch Hall, the ancestral home of the Elliots in Jane Austen’s Persuasion.

If you haven’t seen the 2007 BBC production, we highly recommend it. Starring the wonderful Sally Hawkins as Anne Elliot, Rupert Penry-Jones as Captain Wentworth and the much-missed Anthony Head as Sir Walter Elliot, it is a beautiful story of lost love and second chances.

We were lucky enough to be invited to stay at this stunning Grade I-listed Somerset house by friends celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. With 25 bedrooms and 19 bathrooms, the entire house and grounds can be rented for weddings, celebrations and events - making it the perfect place for a large gathering with family and friends.

There is something rather special about staying in a house such as this, and North Cadbury Court certainly has atmosphere in abundance. Its grand interiors, beautiful grounds and connection to Persuasion make it a memorable place to stay.

It also makes an excellent base for exploring Somerset and Dorset, with plenty of beautiful villages, country pubs, historic houses and countryside to discover. For a weekend away with friends, it really is the perfect Somerset escape.
