Ahead of the curve: The Family Corridor’ at Kedleston Hall

Georgian architects such as John Wood, Robert Adam and Antonio Asprucci introduced curved rooms and buildings into their designs, inspired by classical architecture. The Royal Crescent in Bath, the Rotunda at Ickworth and here ‘The Family Corridor’ at Kedleston Hall are just three examples that spring to mind.

This is a wonderful gallery for displaying paintings as the eye is drawn around the collection in an inviting and natural sweep.

The result appears effortless but imagine the work that went into creating the curved floor boards alone!

For our academics and enthusiasts alike, we recommend reading the article by Leslie Harris and Jill Banks, exploring the history of this unusual corridor.
