Belton House: The Chapel Drawing Room
The Chapel Drawing Room at Belton House is a striking and atmospheric interior, which is amplified by these dramatic green-blue walls.
In fact, this room is rare example of decor that dates back to the building of the house, from around 1683-1685.
During the 1690s, this would have been the most opulent room at Belton, and these same walls would, in fact, have been a bright lapis blue with white and gold flecks.
It’s interesting how interior colours can change over time, depending on the original materials used and the environment they sit in.
Whilst the original wall finish would have certainly be eye catching, we still appreciate the way they look 330 years later.
