A tapestry of illusion: Zardi & Zardi at Oxburgh Hall
All is not what it seems in the King’s Room at Oxburgh Hall.
These are not antique tapestries on the walls but modern interpretations by interior specialists Zardi & Zardi.
Working closely with National Trust curators, they studied 19th‑century watercolours, archival photographs and surviving records to understand what once adorned the King’s Room.
This revealed that the original scheme was not uniform, but a rich patchwork of early Flemish scenes and verdure designs depicting courtly life and lush landscapes.
Using this insight, the designers then carefully selected and adapted designs to rebuild the atmosphere of the space.
Happily for us, the company now produce these tapestry designs for interiors - we have our eye on a particularly fabulous wallpaper for a room scheme we are working on.
